Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has once again taken a strong swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led central government, this time over the rising unemployment crisis in India. Addressing a large public rally in Amethi on Friday, Gandhi accused the Modi government of failing to generate enough jobs for the country’s youth, despite making repeated promises during election campaigns.
“The youth of this country are struggling to find work, and the government is busy promoting billionaires,” Gandhi said, adding that the BJP’s economic policies have only widened the gap between the rich and the poor. He pointed to recent reports showing a significant increase in joblessness among educated youth, particularly in urban areas, and criticized the government’s focus on “publicity over performance.”
Gandhi also promised that if the Congress comes to power in the upcoming general elections, it would launch a comprehensive employment guarantee program aimed specifically at the youth. He said that skill development, small business support, and public sector recruitment would be core components of the party’s strategy.
With the 2024 Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, unemployment has emerged as a key electoral issue, and opposition parties appear to be using it to mobilize support, especially among first-time voters.
